About Us
Sanctioned by the  Illinois Arts Council, the Madison County Arts Council (MCAC) is a  not-for-profit organization that supports local arts and art education in approved IAC art programs.

The MCAC was founded in 1981. Since 1990, MCAC has been a re-granting agency, with funding from the IAC, which is matched  and redistributed through an application process to local artists and arts  organizations with special art program support needs.  A committee of local volunteers reviews submitted applications and makes a recommendation to the MCAC board of directors for awards

The MCAC was originally founded in 1981 with a defined service area of Madison County, Illinois.   Madison  County is in the southwestern region of Illinois, across the Mississippi  from a strong cultural center, St. Louis, Mo.   The county itself has a population of approximately 258,941 in 28 municipalities and rural  areas.

An active, committed and talented board of directors governs the MCAC. The board is comprised of commercial and fine artists, performing  artists, gallery owners and corporate representatives. Our board members  chair committees made up of community members with strong interests in  promoting, fostering, and encouraging ongoing community support of the arts.

MCAC continues to strive to establish a strong arts-oriented impression throughout the region to help stimulate the economy, provide employment opportunities for artists, expand audiences, offer a variety of entertainment, cultural programs and attract new business and membership support.
